He was put into prison for his teachings and was beheaded on February 14. According to the legend he performed a miracle — he cured his jailer‘s daughter of her blindness. Before the execution he wrote her a letter signed «From Your Valentine». Another legend says that the same Valentine wrote to children and friends who loved him from the jail.
According to another legend, Valentine was an Italian bishop who lived at about the same time. He was thrown into prison because he secretly married couples, contrary to the laws of the Roman empire. The legend says that he was burnt at the stake.

Saint Valentine’s Day , commonly known as Valentine’s Day is observed on February 14 each year.
It is celebrated in many countries around the world, though it remains a working day in most of them. It is the second most celebrated holiday around the world second to New Year’s Day.
There are various popular and interesting legends of St Valentine’s Day.
One legend says that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome.
When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those married, he outlawed marriage for young men.
Valentine continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret.
When Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.
Now Valentine’s Day is celebrated in the middle of February to commemorate the anniversary of Valentine’s death, which probably occurred around 270 A.D.
According to another legend, Valentine actually sent the first ‘valentine’ greeting himself.
While in prison, Valentine fell in love with a young girl, his jailor’s daughter, who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, he wrote her a letter, which he signed ‘From your Valentine’ , an expression that is still in use today.
Legends usually says that Valentine was a sympathetic, heroic, and romantic person. In the Middle Ages, Valentine was one of the most popular saints in England and France.
Popularity of the festival is perhaps due to the combined effect of all these legends along with the notion that spring is the time for love.

message or small candies inside the pocket of your woven heart and give it to someone

two different colors of paper (gift wrap or construction paper both work)

Instructions:
Stack the two pieces of paper on top of one another and fold them in half.
Cut a large U shape (so the straight part of the U is at the fold)
Unfold and make sure they look right.
Refold and hold in a heart shape to ensure you’re happy with the shape. Trim a bit if needed.
While still folded and stacked together, cut two slits starting at straight edge running about 2/3 of the way up the U shape
To sort out how far up to cut, imagine your U shape is a square with a half circle on top. Cut up to where the half circle starts
Now it gets a bit complicated:
Take the red and «open» the top loop. Take the white and stick the first end down inside the top red loop.
Now (on the same end) open the white loop and stick the
second red loop partially through.
Stick the white end through the last red loop.
Keep weaving the loops together to form the heart shape
Fill with candy and and a note to a loved one — you can punch holes and lace a ribbon through, tying a bow to hold the candies in if you like

Good morning, children! Today our lesson is devoted to St. Valentine’s Day. We are going to learn some facts about the history of the holiday, have different contents and choose the best pair.

Today we celebrate one of the best holidays, which young and old people love. It is St. Valentine’s Day.
- St. Valentine’s Day is a religious holiday, which is celebrated in Great Britain, in many European countries and in the USA. St. Valentine’s Day has roots in several legends. One of the early symbols of love is Cupidе, the Roman God of Love, who is represented by the image of a young boy with bow and arrow. Valentine was a Christian priest in Roman Empire three hundred years after the death of Jesus Christ. He had been thrown in prison for his teaching. On February 14, Valentine was beheaded, not only because he performed a miracle – he cured the jailer’s daughter from her blindness the night before he was executed – but he wrote a letter to the girl, signing «From your Valentine».
